Australia’s second-largest city, Melbourne is famous for its coffee, tennis, and its status as one of the street art capitals of the world. Nestled in the narrow laneways of the Central Business District is some of the most unique and colorful art in the world, created by a diverse array of artists. Far from traditional graffiti, these laneways are a true urban art form.

The most famous is Hosier Lane, near Federation Square off Flinders Street. Its ever-changing murals are created by some of the best street artists in the world. We even stumbled across a camera crew during our outing, filming the creation of the mural below.

The Details

In addition to Melbourne’s famous laneways of street art (Hosier Lane and Union Lane being the most notable), be sure to wander through the CBD’s several arcades, full of cafés, boutiques, and pubs. Our favorites were Block Arcade, Centre Place, Degraves Lane, and the Royal Arcade.
