Switzerland is truly a magical place! Less than two hours from the hustle of the city we found ourselves breathing crisp mountain air and enjoying breathtaking views of Lauterbrunnen, a small village nestled in a valley at the feet of the Alps and surrounded by glowing snow covered mountain peaks.

The weather during our October trip was absolutely lovely. As the busy summer season gave way to a slower paced rhythm of life, one could feel the last sparks of an Indian summer together with the land’s readiness to rest for the winter. Hotel Oberland provided a welcome refuge from long flights and the view from the top balcony was well worth not having an elevator. A cozy restaurant located downstairs was a great spot for dinner and even chilly nights couldn’t chase us away from enjoying the view on the outside patio.

From the valley, one can easily get up into the mountains and enjoy gondola and train rides up to Shilthorn and Jungfrau peaks.

Our next destination was the lovely town of Thun and the village of Oberhofen. It was a lovely lakeside spot that allowed us to easily roam the city and experience local restaurants while having a getaway room at Stella de Lago, a family owned Italian hotel and restaurant. A mere five minute walk from the hotel took us to Oberhofen Castle. The castle is open to the public and well worth exploring both the detailed interior and the outdoor gardens.
