Walking the Streets of Amsterdam

Amsterdam has always been on my list of places to visit. When a band I’d wanted to see was playing live in the city, a friend and I decided it was finally time to make the trip! The city was just as beautiful as I had imagined and full of pretty bridges crossing the many canals, bicycles everywhere (be careful when walking!), gorgeous old terraced houses growing charmingly wonky with age, wooden shutters, and, of course, never-ending tulips.

Amsterdam is a lovely place to explore. One is certain to discover museums and galleries, come across nice places to eat, and find live music at bars and pubs in the evenings. It’s a great place to sit and people watch as well.

I found the city quite easy to get around by foot as the canals form a kind of grid, making it easy to find one’s way. Many popular attractions are within walking distance of each other and the locals are always very welcoming and friendly, giving the city a wonderfully homey vibe. While our March visit was absolutely lovely, I’d like to return for a longer trip, perhaps at a time of year when there are more leaves on the trees and when the weather is just a bit warmer!
