Italy’s Cinque Terre

It was after very little deliberating that my husband and I decided up on Italy’s Ligurian coast (aka the “Italian Riviera”) for our Summer 2012 destination. I had heard from friends of its loveliness during my summers studying abroad in Le Marche, Italy a decade ago and news of the recent tragic floods and need for tourist funds to rebuild made us want to spend our vacation dollars there. We flew at the end of June from London to Genoa via a quick EasyJet flight, took a bus to the train station and then got on a very hot and un-airconditioned train down the Ligurian coast to the Cinque Terre. Pyramids of Giza + The Sphinx

We visited Egypt in March 2012, during a period of relative peace amongst the unrest of the past couple of years. Egypt’s primary industry is tourism, and although March is traditionally the busiest time of the year, we found ourselves with Egypt almost to ourselves, with no crowds and no lines!
